On Thursday 17 September, VacQPack took part in the first learning network for organic importers at EWS Group Belgium in Antwerp. Organised together with BioForum, the event brought together organic importers for a successful morning of knowledge sharing, practical insights and valuable discussions.
The programme covered recent developments relating to the organic regulation and inspections of organic import consignments. The presentations prompted relevant questions and a lively exchange of experiences, supported by practical examples. Participants also had plenty of opportunity to continue their conversations and establish new contacts during the organic lunch.
From knowledge to practice
After lunch, the participants were given a behind-the-scenes tour of EWS Group Belgium. They learned more about the different methods available for treating imported organic goods responsibly against pests.
VacQPack technology was also featured during the tour. During a demonstration of the VQPRO – the mobile atmosphere modifier at the heart of the VacQPack solution – attendees saw how the system creates the controlled, low-oxygen conditions used in Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP).
Protecting organic goods with MAP
Imported organic goods need to be protected against insects and loss of quality without compromising their organic status. With MAP technology, the oxygen level surrounding the goods is controlled from the moment they are packed. This helps protect products throughout storage and transport.
The demonstration also provided an opportunity to discuss specific supply chain challenges and identify where MAP could offer a suitable solution.
A valuable first edition
The combination of insights into recent developments, practical applications and knowledge sharing made the first learning network a successful event. The tour also demonstrated how EWS Group and VacQPack combine complementary expertise to protect imported organic goods.
