Hemp seeds contain valuable oils and essential fatty acids that make them sensitive to storage conditions. Although natural vitamin E offers some protection against oxidation, long-term storage still demands an airtight environment to prevent rancidity, measured through rising peroxide values. Moisture content must be stabilized below 8% to avoid spoilage and loss of quality. Exposure to light, oxygen and insects further accelerates degradation. For producers supplying food, feed or plant-based protein markets, maintaining consistent quality over extended storage periods without chemical treatments is critical to protect value and compliance.

Effective preservation requires isolating hemp seeds from external influences while using temperature strategically rather than defensively.
