Bio treatment of organic grains
Good grain preservation equals business opportunities. Very often, a more competitive market value for the grain is found months after harvest. Intelligent and quality storage surely is an economic advantage to which VacQPack can add value.
To keep a high standard grain quality for longer periods, insects like moths, beetles and mites must be kept out and the grain must be stored at proper temperature and moisture conditions.
Grain has a fairly low moisture content and counts on protective outer for impermeability. It also holds low thermal conductivity.
On storage environments there is a propensity for grain to lose moisture to the adjacent atmosphere.
Grain is liable to damage by heating, infestation, evaporation and contact with water, instigating respectively germination, fermentation and putrefaction.
VacQPack is aware, by its experience on the field, that grains long term storage management is sensitive issue. A long-term preservation approach to maintain a post-harvest grain sensorial attributes and general quality and preserving the integrity of the grain storage system will require special attention to the following factors:
- Grain temperature
- Grain moisture
- (RH) Air relative humidity
- Storage time
MAP in combination with vacuum and temperature supported by a data recording and customized biotreatment programs will engage with these factors fully.
Particularly in the case of grains, one of the VacQPack’s three weapons is critical. We are referring to temperature as CORNEL S ADLER white paper demonstrates. In fact, VacQPack uses a temperature value higher than 24C to make sure that all laid eggs will hatch and find no oxygen to survive, being the infestation controlled by ammonia.
VacQPack technology on grain preservation has a proven track record. It did operate already in hot and warm climes, in different infrastructures, cultures and countries. It covers the majority of grains, as long as the moisture content is acceptable for its bio packaging approach: barley, corn/maize, oat, rice, spelt, wheat and quinoa. Other types of grains can be tested by VacQPack and new preserving programs will be rendered.
MAP in combination with vacuum, supported by a data recording and customized biotreatment programs will engage with these factors fully.
