Bio treatment of Chia
Chia seeds preservation from moist, water damage and insect infestations (grain weevils and moths) can be achieved using flexible bulk packaging.
The conservation of chia seeds gets facilitated against problems of oxidation, due to its natural antioxidants compounds. It’s mainly on its transport that preservation challenges appear most of the time and particularly on containers.
The container liner involves the all groupage with a polypropylene film, preforms some vacuum and MAP, but the technology behind it have no control or ways to measure the inner package atmosphere. Besides, the risk of leakage on a container liner is elevated by comparison to the VacQPack liners, that are individual to each pallet.
Using the Vacsac or the exterior liner, chia seeds cargo is conditioned in single units, being more protected from cross contaminations, easier to maneuver and to store at destination. In fact, the package is the same, from post-harvest stage until its final warehouse, where it is going to be processed into smaller retailer packing’s.
At storage, the “three weapon system” acts and temperature plays an important role for preservation in case of menace or any detection of insect infestation.
Chia seeds also have an inherent ability to absorb more than 12 times its weight in water. This ability to hold water can prolong hydration and retain electrolytes in body fluids. Taking this into account, it’s expected chia bulks packages to possess a content moisture of 8% or even lower.

VacQPack chemical-free fumigation can assure that the stabilization of 8% of moisture is accomplished, due to is gas thigh barrier of Ethylene vinyl alcohol EVOH, that delivers very low oxygen and water vapor transmission rates.
The Cleanpack machine can then do the recordkeeping of the atmosphere of each package, which is also prepared to be opened for monitorization sampling of even cargo removal and consequent reseal.
This technic approach will respect phytosanitary standards, traceability demands and ensure the purity of the cargo.
Chia seeds contain large amounts of fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, plenty of high quality protein, calcium, potassium and antioxidants. They also contain magnesium, amino acids and a healthy assortment of minerals.
